Matariki is a celebration for Maori New Year and so in our class we made Matariki kites! We had read the story about The Seven Kites of Matariki but we know there are actually nine stars in the cluster.

So we got paper bags, cut them in half and then we searched for Maori patterns. We drew over a big Maori pattern from the white board.

After that we painted them and we could use red, black and white paint. That was fun. We chose another colour to paint the other half and I chose green.

Today was weaving day and we knew it was going to be hard. We had to put the two bags next to each other and weave under and over until they were joined together. It took ages but I am proud of my kite. Then we had to plait or braid strips hanging from our kites some of us needed help.i didnt want to give up

Matariki is a time to celebrate the Maori New year! It is such a nice celebration in NZ. I was cheerful!!

Why was Torty a lucky Tortoise, because she got saved by a New zealander soldier. Got runned over by a carriage. But the Torty had super painful scratches but luckily Torty  survived  unless she was gonna get hibernated. After she did she felt big and strong and the person who found Torty was named stewart! But Stewart didn’t know that Torty’s real owner wasn’t involved in the war. She was far away and she is named Beth.once Stewart was fighting in war. Torty was lonely after he died. Torty was taken to live with his sister, Beth.
